Sending an SMS

This section of the manual dives deep into the methodology of choosing the type of SMS to be sent and the actual procedure of composing an SMS through alerts/ promo applications. As per your business requirement, you might want to send messages to large volumes in quick succession of time lapses. There are times when your business needs to make a quick announcement; your business might want to engage only the subscribers on multiple occasions, or you might want to customize a message only to a specific message group. Based on the requirement, alerts/ promo messaging applications come with 7 different types of campaigns that can be created, which are listed below:

  1. Quick send SMS: Sends same messages quickly to different numbers for a set of audience. Maximum send limit is 50,000 messages in a single trigger. 

  2. Unicode SMS:  Create messages in the language of your choice. Let your customers get the look and feel of their own language

  3. Customize SMS: Customize the senders by selecting a column range, customize flash and Unicode options in the messages for exclusive targeting of a group. Maximum send limit is 5 Lakh SMS in a single trigger.

  4. Customize Split Schedule: In Case of large customized messages, split them into multiple bundles that are triggered in a specific time lapse (for example, send a bundle of messages every 10 seconds up to a max cap of 50,000 per bundle)

  5. Bulk Upload: Upload large volumes of data and send messages. 

  6. Bulk Split schedule: Split the bulk uploads into multiple bundles in specific time lapses

  7. Opt-in SMS: Target your subscriber list and send exclusive messaging campaigns for optimized results. 

Using Quick send SMS

Choose 'Quick-send' option under “Send SMS” menu item from Side Menu. It helps you send messages to single as well bulk recipients instantaneously. The following is the detailed description of what you see once you click on Quick Send SMS.

  1. To Numbers: This pins down to the basic concept of entering the message recipient details. 

  2. To Groups: Choose the ‘Group’ name to send an SMS to the contacts added in the group (shown in the image below).


In order to use “To Groups” field, you should have an active group. If you have not created a group, create one by referring to this section.


  • write the recipient’s number(s) to whom you want to send messages using enter key (no comma separated). 


Note: You can send up to 50,000 messages in a single batch.



Following terms will help you understand the common application terms:

  1. Sender ID:  To send an SMS campaign, select the desired Sender ID from the left menu 

  2. Favourites: You can choose any favourite templates from the dropdown. Favourites are the pre-defined templates to be used within messages.

  3. Campaign Name: Write a unique name for your message campaigns. To filter your Sent messages, a relevant campaign name plays a key role.

  4. Message: Write your text message here. 1 SMS can contain a maximum of 160 characters and 4000 characters after concatenation. After entering your message, number of characters of the entered message will be displayed. You can click on “i” icon to check SMS credit charge Pattern i.e. credits charge.

  5. Flash (checkbox): You can tick this checkbox to send flash SMS for instant delivery. It will appear on the recipient notification screen directly. If recipient accepts, then it will be added to inbox automatically.

  6. Signature: If you have added any signatures in your account, you can directly add in your message by choosing from the left menu. Signatures can help your customers understand your brand identity.

Once your message campaign content is ready, click on “Send Now” button to trigger the campaign. You can also schedule your SMS campaign at a specified time through “Schedule Now” button. 

Scheduling the SMS Campaign

To schedule an SMS campaign, follow the steps below:

  1. Choose Schedule date & time as shown in the image above.  The schedule time should be minimum 5 minutes from the current time and can extend to a maximum of 3 months.

  2. Tick mark the checkbox ‘Split & schedule’ to split the scheduled messages in batches.

  1. Enter number of SMS to be scheduled and sent per batch

  2. Enter the time gap between batches. Minimum time interval should be 15 minutes.

  3. Click on “Send At Scheduled Time” button to schedule SMS campaign successfully.

Sending a Unicode Sms

Many a time, customers would like to experience the look and feel of their own language. Unicode SMS allows you to send messages in any foreign and regional language other than English. Foreign Languages such as Chinese, Cyrillic, Arabic or Thai and similarly regional languages like Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, etc contains non standard characters and must be sent using the Unicode standard. Unicode can represent any character in the world but occupies more characters within the SMS text. As such Unicode messages are limited to 70 characters and 2000 characters after concatenation. The character limitations and the applicable charges are mentioned in the “i” button.

The following procedure explains the procedure of creating a Unicode message. To send a Unicode message, click on the side menu, choose “Send SMS” option and click on “Unicode SMS”. The following are terms you see on the screen.

  1. To Numbers

This pins down to the basic concept of entering the message recipient details. 

  • write the recipients’ number(s) to whom you want to send messages using the enter key (no comma separated). 

Note: You can send up to 50,000 messages in a single batch.

  4. Flash (checkbox): You can tick this checkbox to send flash SMS for instant delivery. It will appear on the recipient notification screen directly rather than inbox. If the recipient accepts, then it will be added to inbox automatically.

  5. Signature: If you have added any signatures in your account, you can directly add in your message by choosing from the left menu. Signatures can help your customers identify your brand.


Once your message campaign content is ready, click on “Send Now” button to trigger the campaign. You can also schedule your SMS campaign at a specified time through “Schedule Now” button 

Scheduling the SMS Campaign

To schedule an SMS campaign, follow the steps below:

  1. Choose Schedule date & time as shown in the image above.  The schedule time should be minimum 5 minutes from the current time and can extend to a maximum of 3 months. 

  2. Tick mark the checkbox ‘split & Schedule’ to split the scheduled messages in batches.

  3. Enter number of SMS to be scheduled and sent per batch 

  4. Enter the time gap between batches. Minimum time interval should be 15 minutes.

  5. Click on “Send at Scheduled Time” button to schedule SMS campaign successfully.

Sending a Customized SMS

Send customized messages to only a few recipients from a list. Choose the column ranges to pick the contacts, to send messages. You can send messages to bulk recipients in a batch of 5 Lakh numbers in one go. Customized messages enable you to create replaceable parameters for a template. Let’s say, the message is “You’ve 300 credits in the account. Your bill will be generated on 1st May.” In the message above credits and the bill generation date will be replaceable and independent to multiple customers and the same can be specified through customized messages.

Detailed below is the procedure to send customized SMS. 

  1. Click on the side menu from the alerts/ promo application.

  2. Select “Send SMS” option and click on “Customize SMS”

The following terms are displayed upon choosing the “Customize SMS”:

  1. To Mobile Number(s): This pin down to the basic concept of entering the message recipient details. Click on Browse Document to select and upload a file in .csv/.xls/.txt format containing details such as Mobile Numbers and the corresponding information that needs to be sent to the recipients.

  2. Sender ID:  To send an SMS campaign, select the desired Sender ID from the left menu. 

  3. Favourites: You can choose any favourite templates from the dropdown. Favourites are the pre-defined templates to be used within messages.

  4. Campaign Name: Write a unique name for your message campaigns. To filter your Sent messages, a relevant campaign name plays a key role.

  5. Select Column containing Mobile Number: Select Mobile number fields` column name. This column ensures that the mobile number is picked up from the ‘X’ column from the uploaded document.

  1. Select Columns containing Ref Number: Select any column name if you wish to nominate it as a reference id column. The same number shall be useful while generating reports too.

  2. Message: Write your text message here. 1 SMS can contain a maximum of 160 characters and 4000 characters after concatenation. After entering your message, number of characters of the entered message will be displayed. You can click on “i” icon to check Unicode SMS charges and character limitations.

  3. Flash (checkbox): You can tick this checkbox to send flash SMS. It will appear on the recipient notification screen directly rather than inbox. If the recipient accepts, then it will be added to inbox automatically.

  4. Signature: If you have added any signatures in your account, you can directly add in your message by choosing from the left menu. Signatures can help your customers understand your brand identity.

  5. Contacts: On the rightmost side, you can choose any group to send your message campaigns to only those contacts which have been added in your group. If you select any group, automatically contact numbers will appear in “To Numbers” section. You can also create a new group of contacts using “New Group” button. 

Once your message campaign content is ready, you need to click on “Preview & Send Now” button to launch the campaign. One pop-up will be displayed on screen and message will be previewed. You can select any range of rows for whom you want to roll this SMS campaign.

  • You can also schedule your SMS campaign for anytime using “Schedule Now” button.

  • Once you are done with SMS campaign, click on Send Now button to send the messages to your customers. 

Sending Customize Split Schedule SMS

Enterprises tend to have large volumes of customer data and might require sending messages in batches of 2 or more. These large volumes can be split into batches and sent according to the specified time lapse. This splits the campaign into multiple bundles and enables the launcher to understand the message performance as per the dedicated bundles.

Follow the steps below to launch a campaign:

  1. To trigger a campaign through customize split schedule, create a message as shown in the section above. 

  2. A pop up window appears, as shown in the image below. 

  3. Select the column ranges to split the contacts into bundles 

  4. Tick on the “Split and Schedule SMS?” option to enable the feature.

  5. Enter the number of messages per batch and the time lapse for each batch.

  6. You’re all done. To send the campaign now, click on “Send Now” and to “Schedule” the campaign at a later point in time, schedule accordingly.

Sending Bulk SMS

Often businesses require a reliable system that can trigger large volumes of messages. Large scale enterprises with millions of customers often send large campaigns. To support the volumes and the scalability, this feature is used.

To create a bulk SMS campaign, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Browse Document order to upload the file containing mobile numbers from your database. You may upload .txt. csv. Xls files.

  2. Select Sender-id from the dropdown from which you want to send message campaigns.

  3. Enter the message text in the Message box.

  4. Select the format such as Normal, Unicode, Flash and follow the same procedure we followed while Sending SMS.

  5. Click on Send Now to send your message campaign instantly. To schedule the message at a later point in time, you can click on the “Schedule SMS” button.

Sending Bulk Split Schedule SMS

Businesses prefer to send messages in many batches to experiment with multi variant testing to optimize their campaign results. Our application enables businesses to send large campaigns by splitting them into multiple bundles.

To send a campaign through Bulk Split Schedule SMS, compose a campaign as shown in the “Sending Bulk SMS” feature and click on “Schedule SMS” option. The pop up window appears as shown below:

  1. Enter the SMS Date & Time.

  2. Tick on the Split and Schedule SMS option to enable the feature.

  3. Enter the number of SMS messages to be triggered per batch.

  4. Send the time lapse for each batch of SMS

  5. Click on “Send at Scheduled Time” and you are all done.

Sending an Opt-In SMS

Often businesses re consider their targeting to a precise set of audience who are interested in their products and services, familiarly called as “Subscribers”. Remarketing to subscribers is a top-notch priority to the new age businesses. Through our messaging platform, you can exclusively target the subscriber list through Opt in SMS.

Once your Opt-in Keyword and Opt-in group are created, you can send Opt-in SMS to the numbers in your group. You can access the Opt-in SMS panel by clicking on the Send SMS dropdown and choosing Opt-in SMS.

There are two ways to gather user's mobile number:

  1. Opt-in Group

  2. Opt-in keyword

Opt-in Group:  For Opt-in Group, you must provide your user’s mobile number and those numbers will be added to an Opt-in group and named related to your entity.

So that whenever you want to send an SMS to those numbers, you can send in one go without any delay. 

Opt-in Keyword: For Opt-in keyword, we will create a keyword (eg. Jabong, Flipkart etc.) related to your business entity and provide you a VMN (virtual mobile number ex.966XXXXXXX).

You can ask your users to subscribe and unsubscribe using below format.

To subscribe: keyword (e.g.: Jabong, Flipkart) SUB to VMN (966XXX)

To unsubscribe: Keyword (e.g. Jabong, Flipkart) UNSUB to VMN (966XXX)


Follow the steps below to send out Opt-in or Opt out SMS:

  1. Select an appropriate Opt-in Group from List of Opt-in Groups. 

  2. Select the Sender ID.

  3. Enter a Campaign Name.

  4. Select a Favorite (optional

  1. Enter the message text in the Message box provided.

  2. Select Normal, Flash or Unicode, based on the type of SMS you intend to send.

  3. Click Send Now to send your SMS instantly or, click Schedule this SMS if you wish to send the SMS at a time of your choice
